Soccer culture is alive and well in Memphis, and Celtic Crossing is one of the preeminent places to catch a game any time of year. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our technical director in residence, Jesús “Jesule” Barbadilla, during the April 21 Real Madrid vs. Barcelona match!
Here’s what you need to know!
Our friends at Celtic Crossing are partnering with us to support the development of exceptional soccer programming in Memphis by offering beer deals throughout the game. Starting at 2 p.m. when the match begins, $1 of every Auld Bog by Soul & Spirits purchased will go toward Play Where You Stays’ K-5 developmental and competitive programs, ensuring Memphis children have access to high-quality soccer coaching. They’ll also pass the hat throughout the game, allowing diners to invest in the joy of sport by supporting PWYS. This event is open to the public and is kid-friendly. We encourage everyone to come out and celebrate soccer, watch an incredible match, have a beer and enjoy one of the most beloved patios in the city.
This is your opportunity to meet a professional soccer player.
One of the best parts of this event is the rare opportunity to engage with a professional soccer player and experienced coach. This summer, through a partnership with Street Soccer USA, Coach Jesule is joining the team at PWYS. He’ll be officially introduced to the community at the Celtic Crossing event, where he will provide insight into the game and talk soccer with diners. Come greet Coach Jesule and welcome him to Memphis – we’re incredibly excited to have him on our team this spring!
Why are events like this important?
Soccer is the world’s greatest game, but the United States is well behind other nations regarding youth engagement with the sport. The game’s nature creates an incredible opportunity; all you need to learn soccer is a ball, a net and a coach. PWYS is deploying talented coaches and meaningful soccer programming to fields across the city, bringing access to soccer to communities where children may not otherwise have access to youth sports programming. But it’s not just about developing a generation of children who are stellar soccer standouts – it’s about instilling the love of play and the joy of sport in our communities. When parents and children gather together around a field, something special happens. We’re striving to create those moments of community, health and collaboration every time we take to the pitch.
Our work is made possible through the generous support of businesses like Celtic Crossing and individuals like you. Coming out to watch a match with us will not only help build soccer culture in Memphis, it will also contribute to our organization’s future. We hope to see you at Celtic Crossing on April 21!
